Johnny Carson was runner-up for the role of Rob Petrie.
The show was written to be about the interaction between Rob and Rose at the office.
The character of Laura (Taylor Moore) become so popular that the show shifted focus. Rose
Marie and Mary Taylor Moore, while cordial to each other, never became friends as
a result.
