Moe Howard, Jerome "Curly" Howard and Larry Fine formed the core of The Three Stooges that went on perform in over a hundred shorts for Columbia Studios beginning in 1934. Due to health problems incurred during the 1940s Curly left the act and was replaced by original stooge Shemp Howard. Following Shemp's death from a stroke in 1955, the part of the third stooge was played by Joe Besser and Curly Joe DeRita. The Three Stooges never performed again as an act together after Larry Fine suffered, what else, a stroke while filming 1970s "kook's Tour".
