Salt of the Earth (1954)
Based on an actual strike in New Mexico by immigrant workers against the Empire Zinc Mine,
the story deals with a mining community struggling for better
wages and diginity from their bosses. Early signs of feminism are shown when wives of the miners
support the strike against their husbands wishes. Even children are treated in an egalitarian
and human manner. A socialist film at heart that obviously draws inspiration from "The Grapes
of Wrath", "The Salt of the Earth" is a classic motion picture beautifully shot.
