The Phantom of the Opera (1925)
At the Opera of Paris, a mysterious Phantom (Lon Chaney) threatens a famous lyric singer,
Carlotta (Mary Fabian) and thus
forces her to give up her role for understudy Christine Daae (Mary Philbin). Christine finally
comes face to face with the Phantom (who wears a mask to hide his hideous face) in the catacombs,
where he lives. What's his goal? What's his secret? An all time silent classic!

Trivia:
The film was re-released by Rino in 1929 with sound, the Phantom, however, remained silent.
Actor Lon Chaney came up with his own make-up (he was aiming to resemble a skull). Some theater patrons
at the premire were reported to have fainted.
