Mondo Cane (1962)
Italian directors Paolo Cavara and Gualtiero Jacopetti started out a new genre, whether for better or worse it's up to discussion, with their 1962 documentary style "Mondo Cane" or 'Dog's World'. Focusing on the sensational, occult, sinister, or gory they bring to screen a series of scenes, some authentic some obviously staged in which we are privy to occult ceremonies, pagan rituals, and exotic practices. A threat for the voyeur, "Mondo Cane" is the predecessor of such spectacles from "Faces of Death" all the way to "Girls Gone Wild".
