Film Festival
The Sundance Film Festival has evolved over its 25-plus years in existence.
The Sundance Film Festival was created in 1978, held in Salt Lake City.
In the early years, the festival focused on retrospective presentations and seminars. It also featured a focus on independent films with their national competition.
In 1981 the film festival moved to Park City, where it is still held today. In 1985 Robert Redford with the help of his Sundance Institute took over operations.
By now it was becoming known for making Indie films into box office gold with success like Steven Soderbergh 1989 Sundance entry "Sex, Lies and Videotape." In 1991 it was officially renamed The Sundance Film Festival.
Today with over 2,500 films submitted it is considered one of the top film festivals in the world. |
