Captain Kidd (1945)
"Captain Kidd" is set in 1699, after the infamous pirate has already built
his reputation. In the movie, Captain Kidd (Charles Laughton) manages to
convince King Willian III to pay him a fee to escort a ship and its treasure
from Madagascar. Well, obviously, the good pirate is up to no good, scheming
to rob the ship himself. But a questionalble crew and the resurfacing of a
rival, Adam Mercy (Randolph Scott), throw a wrech in Kidd's plans.

Trivia:
Four years before "Captain Kidd" was made, Laughton starred in "It Started
With Eve". His character, Jonathan Reynolds Sr. was said to have been born two
centuries too late. Another character comments that he could have been "Captain
Kidd himself".
