Bluebeard (1944)
John Carradine stars in this psychological thriller set in Paris. Bluebeard is a well known respected painter. There's just one little problem: an uncotrolable urge drives him to strangle his women models after painting their portrait. When he falls in love with the beautiful Lucille (Jean Parker) he fights desperatedly to control his urges. "Bluebeard" was produced by Poverty Row and unfortunately it shows. The costumes and sets give the film a b-movie feel and the music gets annoying after a while. Nevertheless, "Bluebeard" manages to capture an icon, Carradine, at his best. Highly recommended.
