The Big Trees (1952)
Set in 1900, this film follows the machinations of an unfeeling businessman (Kirk Douglas) as he attempts to profit off of the destruction of the giant Sequoias. Blocking his way to riches is a colony of Quakers, desperately trying to save their homestead and the beloved trees. Will Kirk wield his axe as nimbly as he wielded his sword in Spartacus? Or will the Quakers prevail upon him to spare these ancient natural treasures?
